My Story and What Led Me to Counseling

What led me into counseling were my children and my own life experiences. I’ve lived in many different places and experienced many transitions. I was born in Zaragoza, Spain, and later moved to San Juan, Puerto Rico. I am so grateful for and proud of the different cultures I come from.

I’ve lived in Spain, Puerto Rico, and throughout the United States, including Missouri, Alabama, Pennsylvania, Georgia, California, and ultimately South Carolina. I’ve raised three children, one in college, one in high school, and one in middle school, and I’ve been married to my husband for 26 years. I’ve navigated relationships and family life and then pursued my master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy later in life.

I felt called to therapy after witnessing so much pain across different communities and knowing how much empathy I carry for others. People change. People lose their way, begin again, carry wounds from family and culture, and sometimes marriages go through hurdles. Sometimes people simply need someone to sit beside them while they find their footing.

This is the heart of what drew me to counseling. Knowing the power of being seen, heard, understood, and reminded of my own strength and resilience has made all the difference.

Let's Get Started

A Bilingual & Culturally Aware Therapist in Greenville

My approach to therapy has been shaped by a life of movement, transition, family, culture, resilience, and becoming.

I’ve experienced what it means to move between places and cultures, to adapt while still holding onto where I come from, and to build a sense of belonging along the way. Growing up with Puerto Rican and Spanish roots, living in both Spain and Puerto Rico, and later navigating life in many different parts of the United States have given me an appreciation for how deeply culture, identity, family, and belonging shape a person.

Becoming a mother and raising my children over the past 20 years has also shaped my understanding of relationships, attachment, sacrifice, love, and the many identities we carry throughout our lives.

Pursuing my master’s degree and becoming a therapist later in life is itself part of the heart of my story. It reflects my belief that becoming never stops. We can change direction, grow, heal, and discover new parts of ourselves at any phase of life or age.

This is why my approach feels relational, compassionate, culturally aware, and deeply human. I don’t simply meet people as clients; I meet them as whole people with histories, families, cultures, wounds, strengths, and hopes.

At the center of my approach is something very personal: I believe people deserve a space where they don’t have to shrink themselves to belong.

I also offer therapy in Spanish and English, creating a space where clients can feel fully understood without having to separate their language, culture, or identity from the therapeutic process.

Therapy Rooted in Belonging, Resilience & Growth

My work is so important to me because it comes from a belief that people don’t need to be “fixed.” They need a safe place to explore who they have been, who they are becoming, and who they still have the courage to become. They need a place where they can belong.

Anytime I have been reminded of my own resilience, I have come back to the importance of having someone there to walk alongside me, someone willing to share in my journey without judgment.

That in itself is priceless and has made all the difference in my own becoming.

Education, Licensure & Professional Training

I build trust by creating a therapeutic relationship where you can feel safe enough to be fully human. I serve without judgment, pressure, or the feeling that you have to perform or have everything figured out. I am very welcoming and empathetic, and I want you to feel like you belong in the therapy space.

I create emotional safety by being genuinely present. I listen not only to what you say, but also to what may be difficult for you to say. I meet you where you are. I don’t rush the process or impose a timeline for healing.

I make room for vulnerability, difficult emotions, silence, uncertainty, and even moments when you aren’t sure what you need. I honor your story by recognizing that culture, family, relationships, identity, and past experiences influence how you understand yourself and the world.

I also believe in being transparent. I explain what I am doing and why, invite collaboration and shared goals, and give you a voice in your treatment. I follow through with consistency, boundaries, and reliability while holding hope without minimizing pain. I believe in your capacity for healing while still honoring how difficult your experiences may have been and allowing the therapeutic relationship to be human.

My approach to trust connects strongly with Becoming: before you can begin becoming, you need to feel safe enough to be who you are.

What You Can Expect From Therapy With Me

A Warm, Human & Collaborative Approach to Counseling

My clients appreciate that my approach is warm and authentic and that my relationship with them feels more human than clinical. They feel truly heard and not judged.

I make space for clients to tell their stories without having to explain themselves and to bring difficult, complicated, and painful parts of themselves into therapy without feeling shamed.

They also appreciate my cultural sensitivity and my ability to meet people where they are. I understand that family, culture, identity, belonging, and life experiences can deeply influence how someone sees themselves.

Children can especially benefit from a space where connection, creativity and play can sometimes communicate what words cannot.

My life experiences, collaborative approach, and belief in my clients’ capacity for healing are central to my work. I don’t define people by their trauma or struggles. Instead, I help them recognize the strengths that may have been hidden underneath.

Therapy is not something I do to clients; it is something I work through with them. I understand that growth doesn’t happen on a schedule and that starting over, changing direction, choosing to invest in yourself, and healing are possible at any stage of life.

Why “Becoming Therapy”?

Becoming means to me that we are never finished, but always evolving. It is the space between who we have been and who we are still becoming.

It is the courage to look honestly at our lives, understand what shaped us, heal what has hurt us, and make room for something new.

Becoming is not about becoming someone else. It is about becoming more fully yourself. It means honoring where you come from while giving yourself permission to grow beyond what you were taught. It means discovering your voice, reclaiming your power, and learning that your story does not have to define your future.

Healing is not just returning to who you were; it is becoming who you were always meant to be.

This belief connects to my therapy process by creating a space where you can slow down, feel safe enough to be honest, and begin to understand the parts of yourself that may have been shaped by trauma, family, culture, relationships, or experiences of not belonging.

Accompanying my clients through their own becoming means helping them feel seen, heard, and understood, while healing, reclaiming resilience, and ultimately walking together into their own becoming.

I help my clients look at where they have been without becoming trapped there. Through our work, you can begin to recognize patterns, reconnect with your emotions and needs, develop self-compassion, and make choices that feel more aligned with who you are.

My use of approaches such as play therapy, Gottman-informed work, Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Internal Family Systems Therapy also fits this philosophy. These approaches give me different ways of meeting people where they are rather than expecting every person to heal in the same way.

You don’t have to become someone different.

Together, we can create the space for you to become more fully yourself.
